Birthstone Book Covers – September: Sapphire

Well, it is officially September which is in fact my birthday month!

I wanted to try a new style of post to kick off the month, so when I saw that Leslie at Books Are The New Black hosts this fun monthly theme, I knew I had to take part.

The rules are simple:

  • Mention the creator (Leslie @ Books Are The New Black ) and link back so she can see your post!
  • Pick 5+ book covers that match the current month’s Birthstone.
  • HAVE FUN!

September’s birthstone is a Sapphire and after doing a little research, I found some interesting information on this website for what it means…

“Sapphire comes from the Greek word sappheiros and blue sapphire is one of the most popular colored stones. The September birthstone has traditionally symbolized sincerity, truth, faithfulness and nobility. For countless centuries, sapphire has adorned royalty and the robes of the clergy. The elite of ancient Greece and Rome believed that blue sapphires protected their owners from harm and envy. Clerics of the Middle Ages wore sapphires because they symbolized Heaven. Ancient Persians believed the earth actually rested on a giant sapphire, which made the sky blue.

The September birthstone was reputed to have healing powers as well. Medieval Europeans believed that sapphire cured plague boils and diseases of the eye. The sapphire birthstone was also thought to be an antidote to poison.”

Right, lets get onto the book covers that I was able to find from books I’ve read but not longer own, my read bookshelves and my TBR cart… (this was much harder than I originally anticipated) Sapphire is such a hard colour to match but I think I managed to get there in the end.

  1. Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott (Read – still own)
  2. Conceal, Don’t Feel by Jen Calonita (TBR)
  3. The Housemaid by Freida McFadden (TBR)
  4. Message Deleted by K. L. Slater (Read – still own)
  5. Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree (TBR)
  6. Once Upon a Dream by Liz Braswell (TBR)
  7. Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter (Read – unhauled)
  8. 25 Days by Per Jacobsen (Read – still own)
  9. The Coworker by Freida McFadden (Read – unhauled)

This was a lot of fun to take part in for my birthday month and who knows, maybe I’ll take part in Octobers…

What sapphire books would you recommend? What would you add to the list?

Sapphire is a lovely colour and I am always drawn to colour with dark blue or purple hues, although my own birthstone is the green peridot.
I like the look of Five Feet Apart, just from the book title.
    Happy Birthday month too.
