August turned out to be a slower reading month for me—not just because I found myself stuck in a bit of a reading slump at the start of the month, but also because life brought some heavier moments with the sudden loss of a family member. Even so, I’m grateful I was able to finish four books, and each one offered me a little escape and comfort in its own way.

Pages read: 1,401
Ragnar’s Claw by William King – Started: 25th July – Finished: 3rd August.
This is book #2 in the Space Wolf series and I listened to this on Audible with my boyfriend. I have recently gotten into wanting to play Warhammer 40K and the army I’ve chosen to paint and play is Space Wolves. So, we decided to give this series a listen to learn more about the lore for one of the characters in my army.
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros – Started: 27th July – Finished: 18th August.
This is book #2 in The Empyrean series which I read physically. I made it a goal of mine to read either this or ACOMAF during my 6 weeks off and felt more drawn to this one. I took a 2-week hiatus from reading this one due to the sudden loss of a family member. Once I felt mentally ready to continue with it, I’m glad I did.
Delicious in Dungeon Vol 4 by Ryoko Kui – Started: 18th August – Finished: 18th August.
This is book #4 in the Delicious in Dungeon manga series which I read physically. I’ve been really enjoying this series so far and I needed a nice short and easy read to tick off. The start of the month was tough and I was falling behind in my reading so I needed to get back on track.
By the Book by Jasmine Guillory – Started: 20th August – Finished: 25th August.
This is book #2 in the Meant to Be series (which are standalone books) and I read this physically. I read the first book in 2021 so I knew it was long overdue that I got to this one. After reading a sci-fi, fantasy and manga earlier in the month, I decided to finish off August with a romance book.

Although it wasn’t the best reading month, I’m still happy that I managed four books given the circumstances. I honestly didn’t think I’d even manage 2… and I’m still on track with my reading goal. Only 6 more to go until I hit it!
What was your best read for August? Are you on track to reach your reading goal?
