Book Synopsis:
Keeping things professional with my employees has never been an issue . . . until Billie waltzes onto my property.
She’s talented, feisty and so damn tempting. We clash from the moment we meet, and I can’t stop thinking about all the ways I could take her down a peg. I can’t stop thinking about her, period.
And in a small town, on an even smaller farm, it’s hard to keep my distance. Billie is the whole package: whip-smart with a body I fantasise about, and quite possibly the only woman who can save this business – and me. She drives me crazy, but the more time we spend together, the more I crave her: her lips, her trust, her heart . . . I want it all.
But at what cost? Because suddenly I don’t just want to win races, I want to win the girl.
Book Review
I have been so excited to start this series after finishing her Chestnut Springs one! Did I enjoy it? Yes. Was this first book as good as the first book in the Chestnut Springs series? No. Am I going to continue on with the series? Absolutely.
This book was Elsie’s debut novel and although it definitely isn’t my favourite book of hers, it is a fantastic first book. I can tell from reading the Chestnut Springs series first before this one that her writing style has massively improved. However, this is still very well written.
I wasn’t immediately sold on the relationship between Vaughn and Billie in the first half of the book but for the last half of the book it really grew on me. Both characters had their own level of complexity and depth which I really enjoyed. Silver used this really well in keeping the story/plot moving. They come off as quite strong characters on the outside but we get to see the turmoil happening beneath and how they help each other with this.
Something that I felt was unique was the fact that this ranch based romance had quite a bit of horse talk. I actually didn’t mind this. I found this quite refreshing seen as the race horses are the heart and soul of the ranch and play a pivotal part in the storyline. Did I almost cry over a horse? Yes. Yes I did. I enjoyed seeing the human relationships develop alongside the horse’s bonding as well.
The book was fast-paced and the plot immediately hooked me in from the start. I didn’t realise that I had reached the end of the book until I did… Part of me thinks that is a good thing because I kept turning the pages. On the other hand, maybe I didn’t feel like the book was quite ready to be finished when it was… I have no idea but still a very enjoyable read!
